Designed in close collaboration with the homeowner, the Boys of Major Laneway suite captivates with its timeless, simple and transitional design. The homeowners envisioned a laneway suite that would provide a charming, separate living space for their close family. The design of this 840 square-foot suite includes a spacious kitchen and dining room on the ground floor looking into the rear yard, complimented by a cozy and adaptable den and powder room. The second floor hosts a bright living space with a comfortable single bedroom and full bath. Three evenly-spaced windows on the second floor maximizes daylight into the living spaces while preserving privacy both to the rear yard and laneway.
The building is clad in a rich dark wood siding and black fibre cement panels that compliments the neighborhood, harmonizing with the existing home. Thoughtfully set back from the primary residence and north property line, the design preserves the mature black elm trees and creates a clear, inviting walkway between the rear yard and laneway.
The Boys of Major Laneway Suite perfectly balances elegance and practicality, creating a space that is both contextually responsive and promises flexible living that accentuates the homeowner’s programmatic priorities.
