We’re excited to announce there are some big changes coming to the laneway suites by-law in the near future!
With the dust settled after the council shake-up of Fall 2019, and the changing lanes policy now firmly in place, The Planning and Housing Committee will be looking at expanding the Laneway Suites policy city wide. Proposed by Councillors Brad Bradford and Ana Bailao, the approved motion has asked city staff to review expanding the policy to encompass the entire city of Toronto and make recommendations for further refining the current policy.
The existing by-law limits laneway development to a centralized area of Toronto and East York, excluding many neighbourhoods that are great candidates to support this new housing typology. While we’ve been advocating for these changes for some time, it’s certainly exciting to see some progress. Click here for more information on the proposed motion.
We have been working with many homeowners that are outside the policy boundary in anticipation of this expansion. Contact us for more details or to see if your lot would qualify for a laneway suite.
