This two-storey suite in Corso Italia retains an existing concrete block garage at grade, perching a super-efficient single-bedroom living space above. The 600 square-foot rental unit is complete with a spacious kitchen, living, and dining overlooking the laneway and a bedroom with ensuite overlooking the rear yard. Our team worked closely with the homeowner to develop a budget-oriented, yet unique space that will provide housing flexibility and maximize value on their property. Working around an existing mature tree, the design cleverly incorporates a recess in the building envelope, enabling opportunities for built-in storage critical to a long-term rental unit.
This elegant urban intervention is a prime example of how laneway suites can provide an opportunity to create valuable additional space on an existing property. The Hudson Laneway Suite is an exemplar of creative urban design that remains sensitive to the existing context.
“From the development fees to the limiting distance agreement I had to obtain, Lanescape took the time to explain and took care of everything. Their drawings are great and very detailed. As a builder I can’t stand having to go back to the architect or designer for clarification. If the drawings are good it’s all there.
The real difference between Lanescape and other firms is that they really care about their clients and their projects. From concept to completion they stick with you and that is really the most valuable thing.”
