Working closely with the homeowners and their family from the start, the design of this 1-bedroom 1-bath laneway suite is conceived with a transitional architectural language while remaining grounded through traditional claddings that mimic the main home. The building is sculpted by the laneway suite by-laws, maximizing interior space while remaining at a reasonable scale for the property and laneway. The ground floor hosts a garage and rec room that will serve the main house while the second floor offers a well-appointed living, kitchen, and dining space with 3-piece bathroom and principal bedroom. Glazing is oriented to privatize the upper level.
The Donegall Laneway Suite demonstrates how detached accessory dwelling units can offer diverse high-quality living solutions to a wide user demographic at various stages of life.
