Toronto is a great city that is growing rapidly. As we grow, we need to ensure housing options remain sustainable, diverse, and equitable. Ottawa and Vancouver permit laneway housing. With your help, Toronto will too.
In Toronto, secondary suites are currently permitted within the main house of a property. Through a series of community consultations, an online survey, and one-on-one conversations with Toronto’s residents, Lanescape sought feedback on the opportunities and sensitivities related to detaching the secondary unit, and creating a laneway suite. Laneway Suites – A New Housing Typology for Toronto was submitted to Toronto and East York Community Council for consideration at its June 13th meeting.
What happens next:
1. TEYCC’s vote will be ratified by City Council in July. Continue to email your local councillor, encouraging them to support this initiative.
2. Stay tuned for opportunities to participate in the city’s public engagement process. We will be sharing these opportunities on our social media accounts, so be sure to like/follow us for regular updates.
Lanescape is working with the City to make laneway suites a reality in Toronto, but we need your help. If you would like to stay up to date on the progress that Lanescape is making, sign up to receive our email updates.
